‍SURVIVORS by Wendy Kout is a powerful, hour-long educational docu-drama that brings to life the history of the Holocaust through the eyewitness testimony of ten survivors who immigrated to America.  It is performed by a young, diverse cast with historical photographs and iconic radio addresses projected throughout the play.

‍

Following the hour-long performance, students participate in a 30-minute “Talk Back” with the cast, playwright, and local Holocaust survivors. Many students were astonished to discover that a Holocaust survivor had been sitting among them in the audience. Hearing their firsthand testimony and experiencing enacted testimony on stage transforms history from facts found in textbooks into something immediate, personal, and profoundly human.

‍

Produced by Arts for Change, SURVIVORS teaches the cost of normalizing hatred in the past and encourages us all to stand up to hatred in the present. The Ebell is proud to host SURVIVORS as the show embodies our mission to build community through arts, culture, education, service, and stewardship.
